Top Places to Invest in Commercial Property in the UK

If you are a landlord looking to expand your property portfolio, or you are simply looking to delve into commercial buy to let, then you will be keen to find out where in the UK is the best place to invest.

The north of England has become increasingly popular with property investors partly due to the Northern Powerhouse, an initiative that has seen significant investment in some of the largest cities in the north of England.

Property investment experts have been advising people that there is a real opportunity to make money in the north of England and particularly around the area of Manchester.

As well as improvements to motorway links, there has been significant money invested in train and metrolink routes. The Liverpool to Manchester line recently benefitted from an electric line, with journey times reduced from an hour to 30 minutes on the direct trains between the two great cities.

The line also has services that stop at some if the largely populated towns in between, meaning that workers can travel easily into both city centres with reasonably short travel times. The metrolink around Greater Manchester has also had significant extensions to more places over the last few years. In particular, the metrolink has benefitted the Salford Quays area where BBC has built a large base called MediaCityUK.

Big companies like BBC and RBS have recently moved some of their operations to the Manchester area because the cost of commercial properties tend to be a lot cheaper than in London. Now that transport links have been improved, employees can easily travel between London and Manchester. You can now get to London from Manchester in around 2 hours, making commuting a more viable option.

Another great pull for businesses to base in the North-West is the quality of University graduates that are attracted to the cities. Both Liverpool University and Manchester University/UMIST produce high caliber graduates that then stay in the area when they start work. Additionally, you have Manchester Metropolitan and Salford campuses all within a few miles of each other.

The situation is similar in Liverpool, where in addition to the centralised Liverpool University, there is also Liverpool John Moores, Liverpool Hope and Edge Hill all in the area. With the high number of graduates coming through each year, the areas are both ideal locations for businesses to base themselves in order to attract high quality employees.

The south of England is still a popular place for commercial property investment and particularly for financial companies or large chains. The great airport links make London an easy place to base businesses and also the lifestyle attracts a lot of high-calibre employees to the city.

If you’re looking for some advice on commercial property investment then speak to London Commercial Property Agents. Property investment is still a very good form of income, so you should find out about the potential opportunities before you miss out. Keep up to date with the latest landlords news and you can stay ahead of the competition.
