The Liars Group and Wolf at the Door snatch prizes at Imbibe’s Drinks List of the Year Awards 2019 last night
Imbibe’s Drinks List of the Year Awards last night showcased the UK’s most exciting bars and this year Manchester’s latest Northern Quarter restaurant and bar Wolf at The Door won Avante Garde Drinks List of the Year, while the acclaimed Liars Group won Group Drinks List of the Year.
The Avante Garde Drinks List award recognises that despite only opening two months ago, Wolf at the Door is already renowned for its visionary drinks menu and has established itself as pushing the boundaries in the bar scene, nailing concept, content and execution. A prerequisite for all contenders nominated for the award was to offer something the judges something they had not seen before, and that’s exactly what Wolf at the Door does with its inventive menu Aperture.
The Liars Group are an established favourite up North, but the accolades keep coming, this time claiming Group Drinks List of the Year award. The title recognises the level of creativity and work that goes into producing a menu that is both authentic and keep guests coming back for more, and how this is even more challenging for a group who need to do this consistently across multiple venues. The award takes into recognition that The Liars Group offers varied, unique but ingenious menus demonstrated by the fact Crazy Pedro’s, The Liars Club, Science + Industry, Cane & Grain and The Bay Horse Tavern are all celebrated destinations in the city.
Lyndon Higginson, founder and director of The Liars Group and Wolf at the Door spoke on the momentous wins;
“The response we’ve had to Wolf at the Door has been incredible, we really wanted to offer a menu that showcased effortless yet quality drinks as the same time. Creating drinks with a modern approach but using traditional methods and only the best ingredients is at the core of what Wolf at the Door offers, and it’s amazing to see that we’re clearly doing it very well!
As for The Liars Group “We started The Liars Group with one thing in mind, to be different and to create concepts that are interesting and far removed from what everyone else is doing. At first, people genuinely thought we were mad, we’ve obviously exceeded expectations and our concepts have a global following – not bad really. Recognition like this is hugely rewarding and a sign that we’re doing the right thing.”
Judges for the competition included Soulshakers’ Michael Butt, drinks consultant Julian de Feral, drinks writer Clinton Cawood, Crucible’s Stu Bale and Edrington-Beam Suntory’s Lucy Morton. Awards were also presented for Themed Drinks List of the Year, Gin List of the Year, Whisky List of the Year, Hotel Drinks List of the Year, Rum List of the Year, Classic Drinks List of the Year – with Lab 22, The Leafy Elephant, Brigadiers, The Savoy, Laki Kane and Blue Bar at The Berkeley all crowned winners.
