Manchester Airport launches budget flights to Europe’s hidden gem

Starting December 17, Manchester Airport will offer direct flights to Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, a lesser-known European destination.

Operated by FLYONE, Moldova’s largest airline, the flights will run twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with one-way tickets starting at just £19.

This new route provides a direct connection for the North’s Moldovan community and opens up Moldova as an affordable and unique travel destination for UK tourists. Moldova, despite its low profile, boasts stunning landscapes, award-winning wines, and historical sites like Old Orhei. Chisinau offers a rich blend of culture, Soviet-era architecture, and vibrant city life with galleries, museums, and local cuisine.

While Moldova borders Ukraine, it remains a safe destination for tourists, according to UK government advice. However, travellers should avoid Transnistria, a breakaway region not under Moldovan government control. Always check travel guidance before visiting.
