The production stars internationally renowned performer and co-creator Le Gateau Chocolat, known for blending powerful vocals with captivating theatricality.
Described by Everything Theatre as “a gorgeous, glittery dazzling delight of a musical that reimagines what theatre for young audiences can be like,” I Wish has previously wowed audiences at the Unicorn Theatre in London and the New Victory Theatre in New York.
The show tells a fresh and playful story of Effie, a fabulous Fairy Godmother-like character who grants wishes in unexpected ways, leading to surprising consequences. Through bold songs and dazzling visuals, I Wish explores themes of self-discovery, acceptance, and joy.
Le Gateau Chocolat takes center stage in this one-person musical, which combines wit, style, and sass to create a modern fable for all ages. Speaking about the production’s debut in Manchester, HOME representatives have called it a “trailblazing reimagining of storytelling for young audiences.”
The creative team behind I Wish includes:
• Rachel Bagshaw, co-creator and director, and Unicorn Theatre’s Artistic Director (A Dead Body in Taos, Fuel; Augmented, Told by an Idiot; Midnight Movie, Royal Court Theatre).
• Seiriol Davies, composer and lyricist, whose credits include Betty! A Sort of Musical (Royal Exchange) and How to Win Against History (Young Vic).
The show previously starred Jordan Laviniere (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Rent) in its earlier runs. For the Manchester debut, Le Gateau Chocolat will bring their unique charisma and vocal power to the role of Effie.
HOME Manchester has been buzzing with excitement for the arrival of the production. I Wish is presented in partnership with Unicorn Theatre and promises to deliver an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages.
