New Zealand inspired restaurant brings Kiwi flavours to Manchester: All-day dining spot opens in St John's

Caravan, the popular London-based all-day dining spot, is expanding its reach to Manchester with the opening of a new location in the St John's neighbourhood. This area, known for its emerging cultural scene and proximity to Aviva Studios and upscale eateries like Fenix, is set to welcome Caravan's first site in the North on August 20th.

The founders, Laura Harper-Hinton, Chris Ammermann, and Miles Kirby, originally from New Zealand, have a history of taking on ambitious projects. After successfully launching their first UK restaurant in London's Exmouth Market fourteen years ago, they continued to grow, establishing six more locations, including one in King's Cross' Coal Drops Yard during its early development.

Their new Manchester venue, just across from Spinningfields, offers a spacious and stylish environment, featuring an expansive dining area, a wraparound cocktail bar, a private dining room, and even an in-house coffee roastery.

The interior, inspired by New Zealand travel huts and wood sheds, combines natural wood, rattan lampshades, and a palette of burnt orange and beige, creating a versatile space that effortlessly transitions from day to night.

Large floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light and open fully to the street, making it an ideal spot for everything from morning coffee to after-work cocktails and dinner. The menu, described as "well-traveled," spans breakfast to dinner with globally-inspired dishes like Korean-style buttermilk fried chicken and chorizo and potato hash with poached eggs. Brunch classics come with a Caravan twist, such as peanut butter and blueberry jam brioche French toast.

The drinks menu is equally curated, featuring cocktails like the Tiramisu Martini and Chef's Margarita, alongside a selection of beers, wines, and low-and-no alcohol options. Coffee, a cornerstone of the Caravan experience, is taken seriously but remains accessible.

As night falls, the menu evolves to include rice bowls, sourdough pizzas, and small plates designed for sharing, complemented by an extensive wine list and local beers.

Caravan Manchester will be open seven days a week, starting from 8 a.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. on weekends.
