Five best city centre spots for non-alcoholic beer
We all know that Manchester is a hotspot for craft beer, but over the last few years there’s been a growing trend of people, Gen Z especially, ditching alcohol altogether.
The rise of addiction, as well as the accessibility of insight into the dangers of alcohol are creating more health-conscious minds, not just with people who are growing up and not touching booze from the off, but also older generations that are now going through an alcohol detox to get sober and live a more holistic lifestyle.
Of course, that does somewhat put the evening in the pub with friends off limits slightly. Although not entirely.
While many pubs across the city will have the token Becks Blue or Heineken Zero, many bars across Manchester also have a growing range of non-alcoholic options too, ideal for meeting up and enjoying a night out without the hangover.
But where are the best places across the city centre?
Love From
Love From opened up in Kampus not long ago and is perhaps the number one choice in the city as it’s entirely alcohol free!
The pop-up bar is really changing perceptions around going out for a drink and is not only a great place to hang out, but it’s also brilliant for enjoying things like tasting masterclasses and workshops, all built around non-alcoholic drinking.
There’s an extensive cocktail menu, while you’ll find a range of beers from the likes of Mash Gang, Days and Lucky Saint.
Feel Good Club
The Northern Quarter’s Feel Good Club is all about spreading positivity and love, so it makes sensee there’s plenty for the health conscious, including in their cocktail and beer menu. You can get a sober version of almost anything on their cocktail menu, while you can also get Brooklyn Brewery’s Special Effects (0.4%) on draught, as well as Erdinger and ciders in the fridges alongside multiple 0% spirits.
Port Street Beer House
Naturally, Port Street Beer House has a solid selection of alcohol free options that are well worth trying. One of the best beer bars in the city, it’s the best place to try a range rather than the token one that many pubs have, while its relaxed environment is also ideal for catching up with buddies.
Sandbar
Over on Oxford Road, you’ve got Sandbar, one of the real hidden gems of the city when it comes to pubs. They have a wealth of beers on draught, including Lucky Saint, one of the most popular non-alcoholic lagers around today, while there are some solid options in the fridges too.
They also offer up some excellent pizzas too. Perfect for a Friday night!
Northern Monk
Back into the Northern Quarter for our final stop and Leeds-based brewery Northern Monk’s tap. Northern Monk have been really leading the way in the UK with their 0% offering.
They have a several non-alcoholic beers that offer a sober take on some of their alcoholic offerings while they’ve also developed hop water, which essentially is hop flavoured sparkling water, getting all the flavour of beer in the most refreshing way. It’s well worth a try!
