Interview Tips
It’s important that you get the most out of your interview, you show them the real ‘you’ and most importantly that you say all the right things to make them employ you. So here are our top 12 interview tips:
1. Research
Always do your research; you don't want to stumble over your words or be caught out by any questions, leaving you looking unprepared and unknowledgeable.
2. Be Puntual
Be on time; make sure to leave plenty of time to get to your interview and to find the right building or floor.
3. Sell Yourself
It's really important that you be yourself, try to be honest, open and sell yourself as best you can.
4. Chat
Building rapport is crucial, make eye contact and be conversational.
5. Understand
Make sure that you understand the job description and use the information provided to your advantage.
6. Practice
As silly as it sounds practise your interview answers with friend or family member, this will put you at ease and chances are you'll feel a lot more relaxed going into the interview
7. Ask
Prepare any questions you have in advance, interviewers love it when you ask questions, plus it demonstrates your interest in the position.
8. Examples
Give real examples of ‘how’ you have achieved positive in your current role. Be clear about what your personal contribution was and use ‘I’ rather than ‘we’.
9. Competency
Be prepared to tackle competency-based interview questions. Most employers are looking for applicants to demonstrate a specific set of skills which they believe are essential to the job role.
10. Think First
Answer questions properly, even if you need a few moments' silence to collect your thoughts.
11. Expect the Unexpected
Sometimes you might come up against a real curve ball in your interview, but it's important to keep your cool, take a moment to think it over and answer the question to the best of your abilities.
12. First Impressions
You can never change a first impression, so make sure you look the part and you're dressed appropriately; your shoes should be polished, your clothes should fit correctly and your accessories should be subtle. A well groomed and tidy appearance will work wonders. We always say, dress for the job you want, not the job you have.
